Past Work on Site

Approximately 13,000 gallons of fuel oil released on 10/5/1988 from an above ground tank due to a broken threaded joint in fuel line. Potential to affect the public water supply. Extent of contamination above 100 parts per million (ppm) total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) estimated at 10,000 cubic yards in 10/1990. Remediation has included recovery of 5,000 gallons of oil in 10/1988 and removal of 140 cubic yards of contaminated soil as of 12/1988. The soil was disposed of at an Air Force fire training area. Also see file number 860.07.002. City owns tanks and is responsible party. School is taking lead on cleanup operations. Site underlain by permafrost with active layer 4 to 6 feet thick. Public water supply is approximately 900 feet down grade from spill. Previous file number 860.02.005.
