Past Work on Site

The facility was constructed in 1960 by the U.S. Air Force and operated until approximately 1975. Visual observation indicates POL contamination on the surface is migrating off site. The site landfill is reported to contain batteries. Investigation regarding past contamination issues planned for 1992. Alascom is remediating LUST contaminated soils at the facility. See 170.26.002. (rpltr8). The White Alice Site (IRP site OT001) is assigned a HIGH overall risk on the Air Force Relative Risk Evaluation Worksheet dated 9/12/95; the landfill (IRP site LF002) is assigned a MEDIUM overall risk. The worksheet indicates that POL has migrated off site. Groundwater is unknown as an exposure pathway. There is potential for limited personnel (visiting Alascom and Air Force) and ecological receptors with the fenced area. Ecological receptors (moose, caribou, burrowing rodents) are known to frequent the off site spill areas and have unlimited access to them.
