Past Work on Site

Through the Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program (NALEMP), the Native Village of Tanacross conducted preliminary site assessments at four native owned allotments along the CANOL (Canadian Oil) pipeline corridor. Transects of all four allotments were walked to inventory and document any military debris found and identify potential contamination sources. Limited surface soil samples were collected where potential contamination was observed. At two of the allotments, additional subsurface sampling was conducted along the former pipeline location. The site assessment activities confirmed the presence of military debris and that contamination above the applicable cleanup levels is present in soil.
